Capolino Perlingieri

Summary

Capolino Perlingieri is a small estate based in the Solapaca area of Campania- north of Avellino, west of Benevento and northeast of Naples. The Perlingieri vineyards are planted near Monte Taburno, at around 300 meters above sea level. The soils are predominately clay of partly volcanic origin with many stones.  Vines are planted at a density of around 5,000 plants per hectare, and yields are extremely low - at around 1 1/2 tons per acre.

The estate is owned and managed by Alexia Perlingieri who grew up on the farm. Her grandfather started the project in the 1950’s as a hobby until he died in 1972.  This is when Alexia’s mother took over and continued to make wine for the local market. She grew up helping her mother until she left home in the late 1980’s to pursue a career in investment banking. When Alexia returned in 2003, she replanted a few dilapidated plots, built a new winery and converted to organic farming. Alexia, has built a great reputation for herself in Campania and is known for her delicious and age worthy Campanian wines.
