Summary

The Denavolo company was founded in 2005 when owner/founder Giulio Armani a mere 3 hectares of vineyards on Monte Dinavolo. This area is in Emilia Romagna’s Northeast region, but more specifically in the Colli Piacentini. You may have heard of Giulio from his work as winemaker at La Stoppa. After years of searching for something to call his own, Giulio found some older vines in the area that he fell in love with.

Giulio’s original vineyards sit at 350 and 450 meters high on clay and limestone soils. Then, in 2008 and 2009, Giulio planted another two plots named Campo Rotonde and Cassandra on stony soils at much higher elevations of 500 to 600 meters. Only white varietals are planted on the Denavolo estate typical to this area: Malvasia di Candia aromatica, Marsanne, Ortrugo, Trebbiano Romagnolo. There are also other grapes in the vineyard that are simply unidentified.

Giulio's winemaking process is simple - he produces primarily traditional orange wines. This means the wines go through very long maceration on the skins, with spontaneous fermentation from only indigenous yeasts, with no added sulphur or filtration.
