Selvagrossa

Summary

Selvagrossa was founded in 2002 by brothers Alessandro and Alberto Taddei, who developed the estate that their grandfather first purchased after returning home from WWII. Located between the hills of Pesaro along the Adriatic coast, this small estate is comprised of 5 hectares of organically-farmed vineyards planted to Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, as well as the indigenous white grapes Biancame and Albanella. Alessandro tends to the vineyards while Alberto is an accomplished sommelier, having worked at prestigious restaurants both at home and abroad. Their wines have a suppleness and structure that truly sets them apart from other estates in the region.

While the estate is not certified organic, Alberto and Alessandro work organically, maintaining cover crops and using only organic treatments in the vineyards. The wines are all fermented spontaneously and a minimal amount of SO2 is used at bottling to stabilize the wines.

According to Gambero Rosso, "Pesaro winemaking seems to have found new impetus as a gaggle of small-scale wineries have brought it back to the limelight. The leader of the pack: Selvagrossa... which has attracted attention for its intensely flavorful.. distinctively crafted, superbly detailed reds.”
