NOTES
VINEYARD: Mourvèdre derived principally from a dry-farmed vineyard planted at the end of the 19th century which comprises 29% of the blend. As yields in the traditional source of Grenache in El Dorado County and at Besson came in under 50% of normal levels, Birichino turned to a striking site in deep Arroyo Seco to make up some of the deficit. Like Besson and the El Dorado fruit, these Arroyo Seco grapes produce a highly aromatic style of Grenache, even more peachy than the high-altitude El Dorado fruit. At the same time, the aforementioned larger percentage of Mourvèdre from Contra Costa County provides the wine with the gentlest bit of spine. old vine Cinsault from Bechthold, which contributes the violet top note, elevated further by a small quantity of particularly fresh and vivid Vermentino from Carneros.
VINIFICATION: Vinified as a red wine, these grapes can produce a tannic, meaty, muscular wine. As a rosé, a complete transformation occurs. While Birichino did not vinify each piece separately, but rather ferment them all in one long, native co-fermentation in stainless
