VARIETAL
Melon de Bourgogne
NOTES
VINEYARD: 175-acre certified Biodynamic® estate vineyard and winery with 87 acres under vine. calcareous sedimentary soils with non-native erratic granite contrast with vineyards located to the east with iron-rich volcanic soils. In addition to the soil characteristics, Johan's site is affected by persistent coastal winds. Daily, the sun heats the valley floor and causes a “heat-sink” effect. This differential draws maritime air through the coast range, directly across from the estate. Annually, there is a 30-40% greater daily wind speed compared to the north Willamette Valley.
FARMING: Biodynamic, Restorative Organic
VINIFICATION: Whole cluster press, as well as a portion of 3-hour skin macerated fruit – all of which was pressed off the skins, then barrel fermented. Aged 11 months on less in barrel
