NOTES
VINEYARD: Sawmill Creek Vineyard, a hillside planting on the east side of Seneca Lake with slopes as steep as 20% gradient. Vineyard altitude ranges from 490-820 feet asl. Planted in 2005 in north-south rows on gravelly loam soils.
Round Rock Vineyard, a shallow hill planting on the east side of Seneca Lake with slopes in the 3-8% gradient range and 840 feet asl. Silt and gravelly silt loam soils with calcareous elements on shale bedrock.
VINIFICATION: Sawmill was hand-harvested on October 9th, sorted, and whole cluster-pressed. Round Rock was machine-harvested and destemmed on October 21st. Lots were kept separate and fermented naturally. Wine was moved to large format (400 and 500L) barrels at the earliest signs of fermentation. Aged in barrel, on lees, until the first racking which was done one month prior to bottling, at which point the two lots were blended in tank. Bottled on August 19th, 2020. 328 cases produced.
TASTING NOTES: Orange essence, quince, and subtle nuttiness in both aroma and palate.
