Costa Bassa Valtellina Superiore Valgella

VARIETAL
100% Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo)

NOTES
Valgella is the name of one of the five sub-zones of the Valtellina Superiore Docg denomination; it stretches over 137 hectares in the commune of Teglio. The name comes from “Valgel”, a dialect word describing the small streams that characterize the area.

VINEYARD: Vineyards are located within the municipality of Teglio, and are situated at 450m above sea level with a southern exposure. The vines are grown on a combination of sandy (primarily) and silty soils (versus the lime-rich, clay based soils of the Langhe). Less tannic and powerful, the Nebbiolo of Valtellina is more delicate than that of Piedmont, with a lot of elegance. Because of the topography and the terraces, mechanization is impossible and everything in the vineyards is done by hand, from growing the grape to harvesting.

VINIFICATION: Grapes harvested in the second half of October. Fermented in stainless steel tank. MLF in oak casks. Aged for 12 months in oak casks.
