Summary

Eugenio González and Raúl Pérez met in the mid-1990s in Pajares de los Oteros (León) where they shared an interest and enthusiasm for the local varietal Prieto Picudo. After ten years of experimental winemaking, González teamed up with entrepreneur Alfredo Martínez in 2006 to create Bodegas Margón and brought Raúl Pérez on as the technical director and winemaker.

Between 2006 and 2007, Margón bought all the rustic vineyard estates in Pajares de los Oteros and its surroundings: a total of 75 plots adding up to 19ha, most of which are over 100 years old. Subsequetly, Margón became the only winery in the area to exclusively produce wines with vineyards between 90 and more than 120 years old. In addition to the focus on Prieto Picudo, the team also makes wine from the local varietal Albarín.

The vineyard and winemaking practices emphasize biodynamic methods, native yeast fermentation, and no to low sulfur additions.
