NOTES

VINEYARD: Bechthold Vineyard. planted in 1886, reputedly constitutes the oldest block of Cinsault on earth. This is an historic little neighborhood: the Shinn Family’s old Carignane vines are literally around the corner from the Bechthold Vineyard. The Shinns have been farming their land since the 1850s. Mokelumne River is an AVA covering the south-west portion of the larger Lodi AVA, including the town of Lodi itself. Mokelumne River is the historical heart of the Lodi appellation and is home to most of Lodi's wineries, which produce concentrated red wines from old-vine Zinfandel.

VINIFICATION: Organically farmed, head pruned and non-irrigated. Created by using the saignee method (the only wine for which Birichino uses this method). Fermentation was native, and elevage was 10 months in a mix of old puncheons and neutral French barrels before being racked for the first time up into the bottling tank, and bottled unfiltered.
