Barbera d'Alba Superiore Donna Elena

VARIETAL
100% Barbera

NOTES
VINEYARD: Vineyards are situated in the Rio Sordo Valley in Barbaresco. They have an east exposure allowing the vines to receive sun until sunset. The vines were planted in 1997.

VINIFICATION: The skins remain in contact with the must for about two weeks during the native yeast fermentation. The total time depends on the vintage. The skins are submersed during fermentation via pump overs. Following malolactic fermentation the wine is transferred and aged in large traditional Slavonian oak casks of 10-20 hectoliters for 18 months. It is not filtered or fined. Total sulfites (free and added) equal 50 mg/l.

TASTING NOTES: The color is a deep and brilliant ruby red. The bouquet is complex: rose, cherry, plum, tobacco, dark chocolate, cinnamon, clove and a balsamic vein. Impressive finesse and elegance, Donna Elena Barbera has a nice tannic balance, bright acidity, and remarkable minerality.
