Notes
VINEYARD: Premier Cru vineyard Maladiere. Santenay’s vineyards stretch across 400ha of which 123ha are planted with Premier Cru vines, divided into 3 distinct zones. The same veins of brown soil combined with limestone that are found further north in Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits reappear south of Chassagne-Montrachet towards Santenay. The La Maladière vineyard, located above the village, enjoys eastern exposure and lies over fissured limestone topped with a thin layer of marl.
In Old French, “La Maladière” meant “hospital.” These institutions receiving donations: this climat name from Santenay refers to one of them belonging to the Maladière of Chagny a few kilometres away.
