Barolo Lazzarito Riserva

VARIETAL
100% Nebbiolo

NOTES
FARMING: Non-certified organic

SOIL: Limestone, Clay, and Sand

VINEYARD: From a .9 hectare plot in the Lazzarito vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba with a south/southwest exposure at 320-360m above sea level. These are the oldest vines the estate owns - they were planted in 1931. The limestone and marl-rich soils contain some veins of ferrous sandstone, thanks to the bordering area of “Sandstone of Diano” which gives the wine a silky and persistent tannin.

VINIFICATION: The grapes are hand harvested and transported in small baskets to the winery. Once the grapes arrive they are then de-stemmed and lightly crushed to undergo alcoholic fermentation in vertical steel tanks. The maceration takes place for about 50-60 days with several pumpovers happening daily, to aid in the extraction of color and tannin. After racking and malolactic fermentation, the wine is then placed into botti grande (large casks) of 2,000 liters for a period of 36 months. After this aging the wine is ready to be bottled and will rest in bottle for another 24 months before being available to the market.
