NOTES
VINEYARD: High elevation at 1500ft asl. Granite-based soil. All grapes are randomly planted together - a very typical way of planting vineyards in the Dão going back generations.
VINIFICATION: Dry-farmed, estate grown grapes are hand-harvested. Grapes are de-stemmed and the vinification is in open stainless steel lagars with controlled temperature and traditional treading. This makes the extraction smoother and less intense. Aged in neutral French oak barrels for 18 months (malolactic in barrel). Fermented with indigenous yeast. Unfined and unfiltered.
The 2019 spring began with high temperatures, which subsequently dropped and remained low during the entire summer. Some rainfall occurred at just the right point in the vines’ growth phase, and flowering took place in excellent weather conditions leading to medium to high yields with healthy berries. The mild days and cool nights throughout the month of August allowed the fruit to ripen slowly and harmoniously.
