Pinot Noir Estate
VARIETAL
Pinot Noir
NOTES
VINEYARD: 175-acre certified Biodynamic® estate vineyard and winery with 87 acres under vine. calcareous sedimentary soils with non-native erratic granite contrast with vineyards located to the east with iron-rich volcanic soils. In addition to the soil characteristics, Johan's site is affected by persistent coastal winds. Daily, the sun heats the valley floor and causes a “heat-sink” effect. This differential draws maritime air through the coast range, directly across from the estate. Annually, there is a 30-40% greater daily wind speed compared to the north Willamette Valley.
FARMING: Biodynamic, Restorative Organic
VINIFICATION: Made from all 10 clones of Pinot Noir grown in the estate vineyard. Lots are kept separate from one another throughout vinification and aging, finally blended at bottling. Grapes were fermented using exclusively native yeast (both primary and malolactic), with approximately 28% whole-cluster fermentation. 11 months in French oak barrels (2%) new
