Mataro

NOTES

VINEYARD: Windmill Vineyard (now certified organic CCOF). Weathered, pink, gravelly alluvium, low fertility soils.

VINIFICATION: Harvested between September 21-26th. Fermented with native yeasts at cool temperatures in stainless steel then aged in neutral barrels for five months. Bottled unfiltered and unfined. Minimum effective use of sulphites (17ppm). 490 cases produced.

TASTING NOTES: The much needed rain in the winter and spring of 2019 replenished the soil and the vines, erasing the vine stress that had built up over the past 6-8 years, and leading to bright, cheerful wines. The wines have less tannin and concentration than tasted since before the drought, instead delivering high-toned fruit and delicate mouthfeel. Serve with a slight chill, a la cellar temperature.
