NOTES
VINEYARD: Windmill Vineyard in Yolo County. Weathered, pink gravelly alluvium, very low fertility soils. Certified organic (CCOF).
VINIFICATION: Harvested on August 22nd. The early harvest date kept the flavors very fresh. The dry weather kept the fruit very healthy, allowing for only minimal sulfites in the vineyard. Other than sulphur (25ppm) there were no other additives or fining agents. The wine was sterile filtered (due to MLF being blocked) and fermented in neutral barrels with no battonage.
TASTING NOTES: The much needed rain in the winter and spring of 2019 replenished the soil and the vines, erasing the vine stress that had built up over the past 6-8 years, and producing bright, cheerful wines. The wines have less tannin and concentration than tasted since before the drought, instead delivering high-toned fruit and delicate mouthfeel.
