Notes
VINEYARD: From the 15 acre La Rivera vineyard in the Uco Valley. The vineyard was planted in 2012 at an altitude of 3600 meters a.s.l. Soil type is limestone with large river stones.
VINIFICATION: All hand-harvested. Twenty-five percent whole-cluster inclusion for 4 days at low temperature and then 20 days fermentation pressed juice in 3000L unlined cement egg. After fermentation, the wine rests for 7 months in 50% concrete egg, and 50% used French oak. Light cartridge filtration.
650 cases produced
TASTING NOTES: The nose is vibrant showing red cherry, raspberry, sage, thyme, and black pepper that leads into a light mid palate with hints of cinnamon, brown sugar, and a hint of citrus. Bright finish with lingering red fruit.
PRESS/RATINGS: Pale, bright red with a light rim. Pretty floral lift to the aromas of red cherry, raspberry, menthol and fresh herbs. Juicy, smooth and intense, with lively acidity framing and lifting the red berry and floral flavors. Very dry, bracing Grenache with a light touch, a silky, savory quality and sneaky red fruit intensity. More Old World than new in style but hardly in the way of a 15%- alcohol Châteauneuf du Pape! Nice inner-mouth tension. The lightly tannic finish shows good floral lift and persistence. (vinified with 25% whole clusters and some carbonic maceration, then aged for seven months in concrete eggs and used French oak)
